I’m going to be honest. I’m not sure we even have to write this article. The answer to this question should be a no-brainer. Pawnshop is the answer all-day, erryday. But — just in case you may be a doubter who believes GameStop will pay you more money than a pawnshop, we’re here to tell you how wrong you are.

So enjoy our completely un-biased article that focuses on all the facts and has no opinions whatsoever…

pawnshop or gamestop?

Surprisingly, both places can have a bad reputation when talking about selling them merchandise. There are countless memes out there about how GameStop will pay you $2.37 for 47 games. On the other hand, pawnshops have had a bad reputation since the beginning of time. But not any more! We’re here to fix that!

Well… we’re fixing the pawnshop reputation at least.

what’s the difference?

There is a BIG difference between a pawnshop and GameStop. There are a ton of obvious differences being that pawnshops are in a completely different business, but for this blog post we’ll just talk about the differences when talking about video games.

difference #1: Pawnbrokers have the ability to pay more

That’s right - your average GameStop employee has almost no power in controlling the amount of money you get for your prized video games. They simply use their little scanny-maboober, scan the barcode, and it tells them how much cash to offer. No thinking involved. On the other hand, pawnshops will typically offer a flat price for each game, and then lookup newer games to make an offer. Don’t like the offer from the pawnshop? Ask for more! You might just get it!

1 point for pawnshops.

difference #2: gamestop can only trade for more games

Looking to trade in your video games at GameStop? Well I hope you’re only looking to buy more video games with that trade credit. (Or at least something video game related) Since GameStop only deals in a specific category of merchandise, you’re limited in what you can trade for. Pawnshops, however, have a HUGE variety of items. You can trade in your limited edition Witcher 3 at the pawnshop and go home with a chainsaw! The sky’s the limit when trading to the pawnshop.

Point. Pawnshop.

difference #3: gamestop offers more if you’re a pro member

Ok… they got us on this one. We don’t have a fancy-smancy loyalty program that gets you more money if you’re trading in as opposed to getting cash. But, let’s face it. This world runs on cold hard cash, not your trade credits. Your status as a Super Duper Power Up Rewards Pro Status Member will only get you so far in life.

Point… pawnshop.

who pays more?

This one is simple.

If you’re looking to trade in your video games or game consoles in order to get more video games or game consoles. Also if you are super concerned with your status as a Level 98 Power Up Rewards Pro Member Star Lord, you should probably just go to GameStop.

However, if you are a part of the other 99% of the population who simply cares about getting the most cash. It’s time to go to the pawnshop to sell your prized video games and consoles.

wrap-up

After performing dozens of scientific studies, interviews hundreds of consumers, and conducting thousands of surveys among Americans — we’ve come to the completely unbiased conclusion that Pawnshops are indeed the true winner of this comparison. If you’re looking to get the most cash, be able to ask for more, or maybe trade for more than just video games - you should never (and I mean never) ever take your games to GameStop.
